Welcome Winters with Quilts- Quilting Supplies or Embroidery Pattern
The cooler, gloomier months are upon us, and I find that I am feeling hugely creative! This happens every year, so it shouldn’t still surprise me, but it does. The warmer months, I spend most of my time trying to stay cool. Rushing around the sewing room just isn’t conducive to that! I spend a lot of time on the computer developing projects for my machine embroidery business or for making quilts to sell or give as gifts. When the cooler months come around, it’s time to say good-bye to the computer and hello to the sewing machine!
This year, I’m further inspired with my fashion sewing! Currently, I’m into making vests, which lend themselves beautifully to quilting and embroidery designs. They are quick and easy to make, use a minimum of fabric, and add a finishing touch to every outfit. What could be better? Only one thing … embroidery quilting! These easy fashion pieces are even quicker when I let my embroidery machine lend a hand.
I also love to wear long, full skirts with my small collection of boots. It’s a great way to keep warm and look stylish and pulled together at the same time. I’ve never been a jeans-and-tee-shirt type of gal, so finding a casual, comfortable look can be daunting! Skirts and boots do it for me.
Full skirts also lend themselves beautifully as canvases for my machine embroidery designs. I can add a free-standing lace edging or delicate red-work style at the hem for a very feminine look. This is a favorite. Or, I can go bold with fabric appliqué and embroidery designs that travel up one side of the skirt, lending an exotic, expensive look to my humble wardrobe item. The options truly are endless!
This season, the colors are all about pink and grey; two of my favorites, and my all-time favorite combination! These two colors together are perfect for casual comfort or supreme elegance. It’s a great and beautiful thing! The two colors also lend themselves to fabulous tone-on-tone embroidery. Whether I stitch pink-on-pink, grey-on-grey, or each color on the other one, elegance is the result of my stitch artistry. Since the color mauve is a greyed pink or purple, it is another great option when doing this type of work on pink or grey. Oh, so many embroidery designs and so many colors!
Because I am so busy with my creative thoughts, what I end up doing is working a little bit on each project every day. First a quilt block, then something embroidered, followed by some sort of fashion sewing. It’s easy to get confused, so I keep all the parts to each project in a small basket. When I’m ready for it, I just grab the right basket and I’m prepared.
Another great way to keep track of my projects is to keep a list of what I’m working on. I have a master list where everything gets noted, and then I fill out my project planning sheets so I know what I’m doing, what I’m trying to create, and whether or not I have the right quilting supplies or embroidery pattern. The master list goes on my corkboard and the planning sheets into a binder, where I also keep pictures, budgets, and more information.
While the record keeping takes time away from my stitching, it is worth it! I know what I have, what I need, and what/where to order it. Also, if I know what I need ahead of time, it makes it easier to look for specials on fabric or discount embroidery designs online. To stay on top of your creativity, the way I want to be, I strongly suggest pre-planning and organization!
