Reins Backpack
How do you stop your child running off when your out and about? and BQ?
So every time me and my little sister go shopping she runs off, she tugs her hand away and runs off. I have tried punishing her for it or praising her when she keeps hold of my hand but it doesn’t help. My mum and dad use to have one of those wrist reins, but I know Becky didn’t like it and it
made her have a lot of tantrums over it.
Any ideas how I can stop her running off?
BQ-What is your opinion on the reins what clip onto backpacks?
She’s 13 and autistic.
Her mental age and learning level is between ages 4-6.
I’m not trying to embarrass her, but what would you rather? Her get lost and get taken by some pedophile or wear a rein on her wrist or backpack and be safe next to me.
I have an autistic brother as well. As I read this it sounded exactly like him. I found that it was worse when we were frustrated or under time constraint. I do not know what her functioning level (is my brother is fairly high). Try talking to her and keeping her involved in the shopping experience to a point that is enjoyable (do not make it like a test that can overstimulate). We have also tried a leash that we hook to his belt buckles for the days when he really likes to wander.
