Swaddle Swaddling
How do I get my 8 mos old to stop swaddling?
My 8 mos old cannot sleep without swaddling, but is strong enough to break out of it. He wakes up 4-5 x’s a night and I have to re-swaddle. We are using one of the Kidopolis velcro swaddles. I think he needs to stop , but does not seem to know what to do with his hands. I try to put him down without and he wakes up after 15 mins. HELP!
We went through the same thing. The fact that he is breaking out of the swaddle so much probably means he is ready to sleep without it. When my son did this we worried and thought he would not sleep if we didn’t keep swaddling him. However, one day we just stopped and to our surprise he was fine. We dressed him in a onesie with socks and then put a pair of footsie pajamas over that so he is warm and cozy. Your son might fuss a bit in the beginning because he won’t be used to having his arms free, but he will quickly get used to it. Just put him in the crib and allow him to move around a bit before going in and checking on him. I f he wakes up like you said he does, don’t go in and comfort him right away. See if he will go back to sleep on his own.I would give it 15 minutes or so before checking on him if he becomes fussy. Good luck!
